Brother, i have had some back issues. My Duster 2013 was perfect in terms of ride quality. The suspension could was very comfortable and the seats were thick and firm like sitting on sofa, as they didn't have a deep bucket. My Honda's and Hyundais always failed me here. So how is the suspension comfort and seat comfort wrt to the Mk 1 Duster?

Having had both the M550i and the M5 competition, the M5 is just better in every way. The ride is a little firmer in the M5, but not so much that it is a problem. The trade off is you get massively better handling characteristics, better acceleration, and less depreciation. Plus, with the M5 you get a car that is part of a legendary history, with instant enthusiast cred. Most of the videos on this topic push the M550i and all say things like “it’s all you would ever need” or “it’s cheaper”, or “you can tune it so it’s basically an M5”. Sometimes though, you just want the real deal and not the “almost” version. You don’t want to have to explain why it’s not really an M5 or give a dissertation on why your car is nearly as good and how you’re such a savvy car shopper. Again, I’ve had both, If you are on the fence, and you are an enthusiast of any sort, my advice is to grab a low mileage F90 M5 now, as the values are only going to increase now that the 5500 lb hybrid monstrosity new car was just released.

Very good vehicle if you use the car for driving, not a bedroom or a technology exhibition on wheels to show off the size of your bank account to the neighbors...!

Well done, thoughtful review. I bought one mid May 2024, here in UK. It was 11 months old with 3500 miles and cost 17000GBP, less than half it list new price of 42000GBP. After 4 weeks and 350 miles I'm very pleased with it.

I bought a 6 month old 1968 TR4 A IRS For $1800 from a NASA worker that was being transferred 1/2 way across the world. Very nice car I tore down the engine and had it blueprinted. Chopped and ported the head. Eventually had those horrible Gargoyle signal lights on the front fenders removed along with anything that had chrome including the bumpers and TRIUMPH lettering. Drove it to the Bay Area in CA in about 28 hours. !20 mph (6000 RPM) through a tank of gas through West Texas. There was not much Interstate back then. Even non car people admired this cars stripped down looks. Sadly a woman rear ended it while it was parked totallying it out. Insurance company paid me $1800 and let me keep it. Purist look down on the IRS but that's what I prefer, and I have driven a number of 3's and 4's with conventional rear axle.

Would it help to put on the seat heating and put the temperature say at 16 degrees? Will this extend the range?

Love the new Duster. Will hopefully be buying one when it comes to the UK but there is a delay on right hand drive version so may not be available until the end of the year. Great review thanks.

how about its suspension, is it like C class or E class airmatic ?

I wished rear ac vent was provided in the new duster because in the old duster the rear passengers had to suffer as the air-conditioner in the old duster was below average and without a rear ac vent it was almost impossible for rear passengers to travel longer distances in hot summer days. Also disappointed with the fuel economy in the AWD version of the new duster.

A question to existing owners: what winter tyres would you recommend?

I was considering to buy 4X4 version, because sometimes I use forest roads and in slippery conditions 4X4 can help out a lot. Also we have 3 months of snow and ice in the winter - another reason to prefere 4X4. However I am a bit dissapointed about average fuel consumption (~7L/100km), old version's diesel engine had some advantage in that regard. About hesitations not to buy this car: no information yet about the durability of this new model, about how long the engine will run and possible birth-defects. Possible alternatives for me in the same price range: VW Tiguan 4X4, 3-5 years old car with ~100 000km mileage, but as a drawback no warranty period anymore etc.

M550i for pleasure and M5 for madness 😊

there is no 53 amg model with 380 horses power. This is the 450 CLE 6 cylinders, with additional 20 horses power ( mild hybrid ) The 53 AMG will have 450 horses power plus the mild hybrid

Even though BMW says the S68 engine is new, it still uses the previous S63 engine block, heads, etc. They changed to the S68 code because of the mild hybrid system and a new vanos.

The ix50 is heavier than iX40 for 150 kilograms!. To the end the two models are very similar for weight power.

M550 is more comfortable, and with a slight tune/downpipes, it’s a rocket, and sounds better.

I don’t know if the previous model had, but this one has AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking System) & further more all these lane assistant, blind spot assistant, adaptive cruise control are nonsense to expert drivers! From the moment it has simple cruise control it’s fine by me! Not to mention that probably is most preferable from people also for its ground clearance.

I with they'd bring this to USA. The longest electric range SUV here is the Toyota RAV4 Prime at 68 kilometers. This is a significant upgrade, in more ways than one.

It is weird to me that in town the range is only about 320kms. It isn’t supposed to be better in that area? I mean at least better Than the highway ??

We have a stepway base model. There is no traction control 'off switch'. The 'traction control' works by cutting the gas when encountering loss of traction. What that means is that we are stranded every time we get ice or snow. (Our drive is very slightly up hill.) When we need the car most, we are let down. Also, the doors lean back and have a sharp edge. so you have to be very careful not to get your face slashed when opening or closing.

Just got a month ago a GLA 250e PHEV (didn't get the choice as it is a company car). I do agree with most of your review after 4000km. The Pro: infotainment system is great (I got the new MBUX whith slight upgrade compared to the version you tried), Interior is premium, quite nice to drive electricaly or in hybrid mode, power is there. The Cons: Options are expensive, the car motor is noisy when you accelerate in baterry mode, trunk car and fuel tank are small. So in a nutshell, it is all the more a good car if you use it in hybrid mode and if you have the chance to benefit to get lot of options.

driving it faster 100kmh is not comfortable , i will fully admit it . but in 90-100 it does good in highway.
